Green Thumbs

ABOUT THE ACTIVITY

The Green Thumbs program at George Gray Centre offers participants with disabilities a therapeutic gardening experience. This initiative focuses on planting, growing, harvesting, and consuming produce, which participants nurture from seed to table. Through pruning, garden maintenance, and understanding seasonal cycles, participants gain valuable horticultural skills that promote physical activity and environmental awareness. Additionally, the program includes creative aspects such as making garden art and decorating pots, enhancing the aesthetic enjoyment and personal satisfaction of gardening.

Engaging in these activities improves physical health and mental well-being, fostering a sense of accomplishment and connection to nature. The social aspect of the program also encourages community building and social interaction, making Green Thumbs a holistic approach to therapy and skill development in a nurturing environment.
